Event Roundup: Thanksgiving Weekend

Happy Thanksgiving weekend! If you’re looking for ways to spend the holiday weekend with family and friends, here are some fun happenings around town: 

Holiday Flea 2022 
Shop for unique holiday gifts while supporting local artists and small businesses. The Holiday Flea at Silver Street Studios will feature local artists, designers, and craftsmen and will offer collectibles, jewelry, vintage, art, mid-century modern furniture, original designs and more artisan products. There will be food trucks and a full bar. The market is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. today, Saturday, and Sunday. General admission is $5; kids 12 and under are free.  

Cistern Illuminated
Buffalo Bayou Partnership is offering a new way to encounter the Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern. Cistern Illuminated kicks off today and continues through Jan. 8. Designed by local artist and engineer Kelly O’Brien of Fenris, Cistern Illuminated features undulating lights that provide a unique perspective on this cavernous underground space. The custom temporary lighting will amplify the reservoir’s 221 columns, adding a new dimension to the reflection in the glassy water below.

Houston Rockets
The Rockets take on the Hawks at Toyota Center on Friday, 7 p.m., and play the Thunder on Saturday, 7 p.m. Check the website for tickets and details about Thanksgiving week specials. 

The ultimate holiday tradition returns with all of the grandeur that audiences love about Stanton Welch’s The Nutcracker. 

Houston Ballet Presents The Nutcracker 
Stanton Welch’s The Nutcracker, a beloved holiday tradition for many, returns to the Wortham Center starting tonight and continuing through Dec. 27. Look forward to the stunning sets, costumes, the iconic score, and an incredible performance that will delight the whole family. 

Visit with Santa and his reindeer at CityCentre during Holiday in the Plaza presented by Sewell Cadillac.

CityCentre's Holiday in the Plaza 
Visit with Santa and two of his reindeer at CityCentre on Saturday, 12-5 p.m. (weather permitting) on Saturday during Holiday in the Plaza presented by Sewell Cadillac. Santa will kick off the festivities when he arrives in his Sewell Cadillac at 12 p.m. to spread holiday cheer and pose for pictures. Dance along to holiday classics with the Houston Show Choir at 1:30, 3, and 5 p.m. Help fill Santa’s Cadillac with new, unwrapped toys to be donated in exchange for a complimentary picture with Santa.  

Bellaire Open Air HTX Market 
Browse goodies from local artisans and small businesses at the Bellaire Open Air HTX Market at Evelyn’s Park on Sunday, 12-4 p.m.
