Today is Veteran’s Day, in which we honor our veterans. This weekend is also the start of lots of holiday festivities around town.
Houston Salutes American Heroes: Veteran’s Day Celebration
The City of Houston will honor our veterans today with a celebration at City Hall. The schedule of events includes: the ceremony, 21 Gun Salute, and keynote speaker Colonel David J. Lewis, 10 a.m.; moment of silence in honor of the signing of the WWI Armistice, 11 a.m.; the Houston Salutes American Heroes Parade at 11:30 a.m. Free parking in Theater District Parking Garage, entrances 2 and 5 (from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m.).
Houston Ballet Nutcracker Market
The popular Nutcracker Market, benefiting the Houston Ballet, takes place at NRG this weekend. Browse a wide range of gifts from hundreds of vendors. Hours are 10 a.m.-7 p.m. today; 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sunday.
Cadence Bank Houston Open
Presented by the Astros Golf Foundation, the annual charity golf tournament is taking place at Memorial Park. Find spectator info and the schedule of events here. On Sunday, following the trophy ceremony (approximately 3 p.m.), Pat Green will perform on the driving range. Admission for the concert is included with a Sunday tournament ticket.
Frostival at Discovery Green
Discovery Green’s annual winter celebration takes place today, 6-10 p.m., marking the opening of the Green Mountain Energy Ice. Enjoy live ice carving by Reverend Butter, live mural paintings by Big Walls, Big Dreams, performances by Break Free, Cirque Mythos, and more. The first 50 people will skate for free (general admission is $17). It’s also the final weekend to check out Discovery Green’s popular art installation, Mi Casa, Your Casa by Mexican designers Esrawe + Cadena.
The Big Bounce America
Bounce around on the world’s largest bounce house. The Big Bounce America, the Guinness world record holder of the world’s largest bounce house, includes four massive inflatable attractions. The Big Bounce America is stopping at Katy Mills this weekend, Nov. 11-13, in addition to Nov. 18-20 and Nov. 25-26.
Bellaire Arts and Crafts Festival
The Bellaire Culture and Arts Board is hosting its Arts and Crafts Festival in Paseo Park on Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Shop arts and crafts for holiday gifts and more.
The Galleria’s 33rd Annual Ice Spectacular and Tree Lighting
The Galleria’s Annual Ice Spectacular takes place on Saturday, including a dynamic ice skating show, musical performances, and the lighting of the center’s 55-foot tree. Family-friendly activities kick off at noon and the musical and ice performance and tree lighting at 6 p.m.
Classic Journey Live: A Tribute
Fans will love coming along for the journey with this tribute to Journey. More than just a concert, the show features video excerpts of interviews and performances from the members of Journey. The tribute show takes place on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Miller Outdoor Theatre.
