Seniors Caroline Caillouet, Ana Frias, Lena Lowry, Emily McDowell, and Alicia Wu.
Even as students continue to truck on through this grueling school year, the one thing many are able to look forward to is the arrival of winter sports (myself included). Girls’ and boys' soccer have both started off with a bang, with the girls going 2-1 this season with huge wins against Lutheran South Academy and H.C.Y.A.
The Lady Stangs first game of the season resulted in a 3-1 victory over the Lutheran South Pioneers. Junior Lanah Raddatz was able to crack the game open with a well-placed shot into the left corner of the goal; while senior Lena Lowry added on with a one-on-one finish against the goalie. In the second half, freshman Gracie Cervantes showed great composure when she scored goal number 3 from a penalty kick in the goalie box.
The boys' soccer team winning the championship game.
As for the boys, they were able to pull off a victory, winning the tournament hosted by St. Thomas. In their championship game against St. Pius X, they won 3-0. One goal was scored by Josh Lopez and two goals were scored by Carlos Ortiz, who was able to break through the opponent's defense and score with well-placed shots.
Not only did these two attacking players do incredibly, but the goalie Tully Florey had 6 amazing saves as well. The chemistry and friendships between the players can be seen clearly by anyone who takes the time to watch these teams play, and it is that same chemistry and friendship that will take both teams far this season.
