Event Roundup: What to Look Forward to This Weekend
Happy Friday and happy Go Texan Day! Today is the official kickoff to Rodeo season with pre-Rodeo events. Weekend highlights include:
World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest
The World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest continues today and tomorrow, in which teams from across Texas compete for champion titles in a range of BBQ categories. Visitors can enjoy several public venues, including The Garden, Rockin’ Bar-B-Que Saloon, the Chuckwagon, the carnival, plus live music.
Rodeo Roundup & Go Texan Day
Don your denim, boots, and hats and head downtown for Rodeo Roundup & Go Texan Day at Houston City Hall starting at 11 a.m. Mayor Sylvester Turner’s Go Texan Day proclamation will kick off the event, followed by free chopped barbecue sandwiches provided by the World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Committee. Trail Rides
Welcome the trail riders as they make their way into town today. The trail riders will camp at Memorial Park this evening. See the map and more information here. Trail Rides (rodeohouston.com)
Rodeo Run
Rodeo Run, presented by ConocoPhillips, will be held downtown Saturday morning. The event includes a 10K Wheelchair race, 5K Timed, 5K United, 10K Timed, and a Sleep-In option. Participants and supporters are invited to Eleanor Tinsley Park after the race for a celebration supporting the HLSR.
Downtown Rodeo Parade
The Downtown Rodeo Parade, featuring decorative floats, riders on horseback, and marching bands, will be held Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. The parade route begins at Bagby and Walker Streets, travels from Travis to Bell Street, and from Bell Street to Louisiana Street, before turning on Lamar Street, and ends at Lamar and Bagby. RodeoHouston barrelman Leon Coffee will serve as the 2023 Grand Marshal.
2023 Tour de Houston
Tour de Houston, presented by Apache Corporation, will take place on Sunday morning downtown. The annual bike ride offers Houstonians and visitors a unique way to view the city with routes winding through Houston’s historic neighborhoods, scenic districts and parks while raising funds for the city’s Re-Plant Houston program.
