Happy Friday and happy Mother’s Day weekend! Here are some fun things to do around town this weekend:
Miller Outdoor Theatre’s 100th Birthday Celebration
Happy 100th Birthday, Miller Outdoor Theatre! Celebrate tonight, 6-8 p.m., with complimentary birthday cake by Bolillo Bakery, performance artists, a juggler, face painting, caricatures, photo installations, and more. The birthday celebrations will be followed by a performance by Houston Ballet, 8 p.m.
Urban Harvest Pollinator Festival
This is one “buzzy” event: Urban Harvest will host their third annual Pollinator Festival on Saturday, 9-11 a.m. Shop and support local during one of Houston’s largest farmers markets while learning the importance of pollinating animals for continued fruit and vegetable production. Activities will include: Honeybees on display in an observation hive and samples of their hyperlocal neighborhood honeys from Bee2Bee; pollinator plants; arts and crafts; the opportunity to taste seasonal items from Hive Bee Farm including local raw unfiltered honey and rye barrel aged honey by William Price Distilling Co from Hive Bee Farm; and more.
Second Annual Houston Art Bike Festival
Join Houston Parks Board and the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art for the Second Annual Houston Art Bike Festival on Saturday, 10 a.m.-11 p.m. The festival is open to all ages, with a range of activities throughout the day at MacGregor Park and the Orange Show World headquarters. The schedule includes: the Houston Art Bike Parade at MacGregor Park (10 a.m.-1 p.m.); Houston Art Bike Festival & Concert at Orange Show Center for Visionary Art (6-9 p.m.); 50th Annual Moonlight Ramble (9-11 p.m.).
Fourth Annual Memorial High School Graduate Car Parade
Celebrate Memorial-area high school grads at the Fourth Annual Memorial High School Graduate Car Parade, which will take place on Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m. The parade starts on Gaylord Drive and Piney Point Road. From there, the route turns south and ends at Ecclesia Houston Church. Pull up a chair along the parade route and get ready to cheer for local grads.
Mother’s Day Weekend at Bayou Bend
Celebrate Mother’s Day Weekend at Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens (Saturday and Sunday, 1-5 p.m.) surrounded by the beauty of nature, art, and music. No reservations necessary. All moms get in free. There will be complimentary cookies and lemonade for all. On Saturday, there will be music by guitar and fiddle player Mark Seale and on Sunday, music by harpist Hope Cowan (live music is scheduled from 1:30-4:30, with short breaks between sets).
5K Mamas Fun Run
The family-friendly 4th annual 5K Mamas Fun Run, which takes place at MacGregor Park on Sunday, 7-11 a.m., benefits mothers in need and promotes healthy pregnancies. After the race, enjoy live music, food, drinks, and children's activities. Registration: $40.
