Stratford Playhouse wins big

Stratford High School took home the most awards of the night at the Tommy Tune Awards hosted by Theatre Under the Stars at the Hobby Center. The awards program, named for Broadway legend and Houston native Tommy Tune, acknowledges excellence in high-school theater. Pictured performing “Transylvania Mania,” the Stratford cast and crew wre among forty-eight Houston-areas schools, and captured eight wins including Outstanding Musical for their production of Young Frankenstein, directed by eight-time Tommy Tune award winner CeCe Prudhomme. Other awards included Outstanding Ensemble, Outstanding Music Direction, and Outstanding Lead for Nic Rhew’s performance as Frederick Frankenstein. Student-actors Asher Rigo and Kira Sledge were also finalists for Outstanding Lead; Hudson Perroni was a finalist for Best Supporting Actor; Anna Rigo was a finalist for Best Singer; and Callan Reimann was an honorable mention finalist. In addition to acting awards, Stratford was honored for Outstanding Scenic Design (David Clayton and Garrett Sugg), Outstanding Costume Design (Sammer Ali and Emma Whitton), Outstanding Sound Design (Alex Borg, Henry Cohen, and Josh Hummel), and Outstanding Stage Management (Kate Diers).
