Event Roundup: What to Look Forward to This Weekend
Happy Friday! It’s the last weekend in July but there’s lots of summer fun to be had around town. Weekend highlights include:
Houston Texans Training Camp
Houston Texas Training Camp presented by Xfinity kicks off today. Training Camp includes practices open to the public. Each open practice will feature fan giveaways at the Xfinity tent, player autographs, and the Texans’ Community Corner. Fans will have shaded viewing options, surprise giveaways, live music, food trucks and much more! Today, the first open practice kicks off at 9 a.m. Training Camp continues Sunday at 9 a.m. with Legends at Camp. Free with advance tickets.
Potterfest
Celebrate Harry Potter's birthday with magical festivities at Urban South Brewery this weekend. Tonight, starting at 7 p.m., the brewhouse hosts the Triwizard Trivia Tournament. Come dressed in your Hogwarts best to compete in Triwizard Trivia for a chance to win the Triwizard Cup! Extra points awarded to teams for dressing to theme. Saturday, celebrate Harry Potter’s Birthday with a day full of specialty themed beverages, live entertainment, Divination (fortune telling), face painting, Harry Potter Cookie Decorating Class, bounce house fun, and a Diagon Alley vendor market featuring Harry Potter themed merch, wands, and more. Compete in the Costume Contest at 3 p.m. Saturday’s festivities kick off at 1 p.m.
Houston Astros vs. Tampa Bay Rays
The ‘Stros take on the Rays at Minute Maid tonight, 7:10 p.m.; Saturday, 6:15 p.m., and Sunday, 1:10 p.m. Tickets start at $24.
Houston Shakespeare Festival
The annual Houston Shakespeare Festival has returned to Miller Outdoor Theatre, running every night through Sat., Aug. 5. This year, the festival’s company will perform “Macbeth” and “Much Ado About Nothing,” produced by the University of Houston’s School of Theatre & Dance at the Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts. All shows are free to the public. This weekend, “Much Ado About Nothing” will be performed on Friday and “Macbeth” will be performed on Saturday, with a Bard Talk at 7:45 p.m.; performances begin at 8:15 p.m.
Family Movie Night Presented by Texas Children's: Spider-Man: No Way Home
Bring the family to Levy Park for a free showing of Spider-Man: No Way Home (PG-13) presented by Texas Children’s. The film begins at 8:30 p.m.
Movies Under the Stars: The Upside
Enjoy a free screening of The Upside (PG-13), starring Kevin Hart, under the stars at Market Square Park on Friday, starting at 8 p.m.
Magic and Mischief Managed at Children’s Museum Houston
In honor of Harry Potter’s birthday weekend, Children’s Museum Houston hosts a range of spellbinding activities. Hang out with Harry, Hermione, and Ron on Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m. Fans are invited to a Muggles Bash full of magical fun. Special events include Meet the Wizards (take a photo with Harry, Hermione, and Run); an owl presentation by Houston Audubon; and a magic show. Costumes encouraged.
Houston Dash vs. Racing Lousiville FC
The Houston Dash play Racing Lousiville FC at Shell Energy Stadium, Saturday, 7:30 p.m.
Bellaire Open Air Market
Browse goods from local artisans at the Bellaire Open Air Market at Evelyn’s Park on Sunday, 5-9 p.m.
