Houston Restaurant Weeks 2023
Houston Restaurant Weeks continues, offering multi-course prix fixe menus for brunch, lunch, or dinner, benefiting the Houston Food Bank.
Houston Astros vs. Los Angeles Angels
The Astros take on the Angels in a three-game series at Minute Maid Park: Friday, 7:10 p.m.; Saturday, 6:15 p.m.; and Sunday, 1:10 p.m.
Uptown: A Celebration of Soul
Uptown blends together contemporary radio hits and classic Motown music, with unique and modern choreography. The free performance takes place at Miller Outdoor Theatre Friday at 8:30 p.m.
Galveston Island Revue Weekend
Galveston’s summertime celebration of the island’s vintage past returns this weekend. This year’s event highlights numerous Galveston Historical Foundation properties for a weekend of classes, parties, contests, and more. Based on island events from summer seasons past, the Galveston Island Revue Weekend was revamped into a contemporary event in 2009. Each year contestants from around the United States vie for prizes, sashes, and more while the assembled crowds enjoy a weekend of retro fun. The 15th Annual Bathing Beauty Contest takes place on Saturday at Saengerfest Park, 5-9 p.m., and is free to the public.
AIA Sandcastle Competition
The annual AIA Sandcastle Competition takes place on East Beach this Saturday. More than 60 teams will work to build gigantic, creative sandcastles in the prestigious competition. This year, spectators will be able to view the sand structures on Sunday as well, plus take advantage of free sandcastle-building lessons. The event will open to spectators on Saturday at 9 a.m. and is free to the public.
The Infinite Force at Children’s Museum Houston
Star Wars fans, head on down to Children’s Museum Houston for The Infinite Force, funded in part by the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance, sponsored by Champion Energy Services. Travel to a galaxy far, far away for a meet-and-greet with Star Wars-inspired characters on Saturday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Engineer your best spaceship to defend the Jedi. May the force be with you.
Second Saturdays at Sawyer Yards
On the second Saturday of each month, the artists of Sawyer Yards open their studios to the public from 12-5 p.m. Spend the afternoon wandering through six repurposed warehouses and discover an extensive selection of painting, sculpture, jewelry, photography, clothing, textiles, printmaking, mixed media, and more. Meet the artists, learn about their work, and add a new piece (or two!) to your collection. Second Saturday is a free event and open to the public.
BAM! Big Art Market
Also at Sawyer Yards this Saturday, BAM! Art Market coincides with Second Saturday Open Studios of which Silver Street Studios is a part and will be open. The BAM! Market will feature a variety of fine art mediums and crafts. The mix of fine art and artisan crafts include art quilts, candles, soap, folk art, collage, pottery, home decor, chocolates and cookies, to contemporary, modern and surreal paintings, fine art photography, original handmade jewelry, glass art and fiber arts. The market is open at Silver Street Studios from 12-7 p.m.
Incredible India: Rudrakshya Produced By Indian Performing Arts Samskriti
Enjoy a traditional classical dance form of Odissi from India’s eastern state of Odisha. The dances have a perfectly balanced combination of sculpturesque poses and a strong rhythmic component that is the very pulse of dance. The Rudrakshya dancers perform at Miller Outdoor Theatre on Saturday at 8:30 p.m.
Houston Texans Training Camp
Houston Texas Training Camp presented by Xfinity includes practices open to the public. Each open practice will feature fan giveaways at the Xfinity tent, player autographs, influencers and our Community Corner. Training Camp events continue this Sunday with a Limited Edition Merch Launch at 9 a.m.
