The gift of gardening
Stratford High School senior and new Eagle Scout Jake Chapman (pictured, top row, center) worked with the Together program at Mikey’s Place to complete his service project. Together at Mikey’s Place is a new work program designed to help young adults with disabilities find meaningful employment through vocational training. Jake met with leaders at Mikey’s Place at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church and determined that a horticulture project would be a perfect match for the organization’s needs. He built accessible planting and potting tables that provide an opportunity for artisans in the Together at Mikey’s Place program to learn hands-on gardening skills. Pictured are (top row, from left) Irene Samaniego, Marty Chapman, Redmond Ward, Jake Chapman, Cristobal Alvarado, Rick Chapman; (bottom row, from left) Diana Matlock, Michael Monroy, Lauren Nick, Jeffrey Eichelberger, and Avery Dieckman.
