Beloved kindergarten teacher Michelle Cox (pictured) retired after 37 years with Houston Independent School District (HISD), including 35 years at Condit Elementary School. Fifth grade Condit teacher Melanie Mulhollan hosted a “Cinco de Michelle” retirement party, coinciding with the Cinco de Mayo holiday, where current and past teachers wished their friend and colleague well. Michelle began her career as a speech teacher and later started teaching kindergarten, much to the happiness of many Condit families. She helped start the school’s “Leader in Me” program, a national initiative to develop leadership skills among students and teachers, and she served on the committee for building the new campus. Now retired, Michelle is enjoying life in the Condit neighborhood with her husband, Mark Cox.
