Cooling Centers
West University
- West U City Hall, the Recreation Center, and the Community Building are available for residents to charge their devices and cool off during regular business hours.
Additionally, the City of Houston and Harris County have set up cooling centers. We encourage you to utilize them or another cooled place available to you, especially as temperatures rise today.

City Facilities
West U: Parks and Recreation: The Recreation Center pool is still closed. To check the status of the pool, please contact the Recreation Center at 713–662–7420. Colonial Park Pool remains closed. Power has been restored at the Community Building and is now open. Due to storm debris, Judson Park and Huffington Park will be closed until further notice. West U City Hall, the Recreation Center, and the Community Building are available for residents to charge their devices and cool off during regular business hours.
Bellaire: Most City services and facilities are open. Bellaire City Library, Bellaire Pools, and some parks remain closed for storm recovery. Public safety is open 24/7.
Trash Pickup & Storm Debris
Bellaire
Solid Waste/Recycling/Yard Waste: The City of Bellaire will collect Monday's trash and limbs/brush and Tuesday's regular trash, limbs/brush, and recycling Tuesday.
Storm Debris:
- The first storm debris collection will take place early next week. Please have debris on the curb by Monday morning. Vegetation will be picked up in the first pass, and construction debris will be picked up in the second round, which will be scheduled at a later date.
- Storm-related debris includes vegetation (large tree limbs, tree trunks, leaves, etc.) and construction debris (fence panels, lumber, building material, etc.). Please clearly separate your debris by type and from the trash and recycling.
- Tips for placing your storm debris curbside for pick up:
- Separate vegetation (tree limbs, trunks, etc.) from construction debris (fence panels, lumber, shingles, building materials)
- Separate all storm debris from trash and recycling
- Please do not place debris under a low-hanging tree canopy or utility line
- Do not bag debris
- Please do not block sidewalks, water meters, or fire hydrants
- Do not place items in the street
- Trash, recycling, and limbs/brush collection services are running regularly. These services will collect as much vegetation as possible with their equipment. A 3rd party debris removal service for storm recovery will begin early next week.
- You can report storm debris in the right of way with SeeClickFix.
West U
Solid Waste/Recycling/Yard Waste:
- Tuesday – normal collection
- Wednesday – recycling and yard waste from Monday
- Thursday – normal collection
- Friday – normal collection
Storm Debris:
The City has completed its storm debris assessment and will be working with a debris removal contractor to assist with expediting these efforts.
- The first tentative collection will take place early next week. A second collection date will be coordinated at a later time. Residents are encouraged to get as much storm related debris curbside before next week.
- Storm related debris includes large tree limbs, tree trunks, lumber, fence panels, and construction and demolition debris.
- Please clearly separate storm related debris from your regular trash, recycling, and bagged yard waste.
- When placing storm debris curbside, do not block sidewalks, water meters, fire hydrants, or low-hanging utility lines, and do not place items in the street.
Memorial Villages
Storm Debris:
The tree debris collection site opened Tuesday (July 9) at noon. The old Las Alamedas location at I-10 and Old Voss Road will be open for residents or your hired landscapers/tree cutters to utilize. Anyone dropping off debris must provide a completed authorization form at the time of drop-off. This location is for use by Memorial Villages residents only.
City of Houston
On Tuesday, July 9, Monday’s garbage and heavy tree waste was collected. Storm debris collections have resumed. All six Neighborhood Depositories will reopen, but all other facilities will remain closed. Recycling and yard waste services will be suspended for the remainder of the week and will be collected on your next regularly scheduled collection day.
Additionally, SWM will conduct city-wide damage assessments from Hurricane Beryl.
- Wednesday, July 10: Tuesday’s garbage, heavy tree waste, and storm debris will be collected. All SWM facilities will reopen.
- Thursday, July 11: Thursday’s garbage, heavy tree waste, and storm debris will be collected.
- Friday, July 12: Friday’s garbage, heavy tree waste, and storm debris will be collected.
- Saturday, July 13: Heavy tree waste and storm debris operations will continue.
CenterPoint Energy (CPE) is responsible for handling downed power lines or vegetation that is leaning or hanging on power lines. The City does not have ability or authority to deal with the electrical distribution system. CPE has mobilized mutual assistance with other utility providers bringing in additional resources to help restore power as soon as possible. Residents are asked to refrain from calling the city to report power outages and please direct those calls to CPE at 713-207-2222.
Restaurants open now
Many restaurants were left without power and have been unable to open. If you're looking for a place to eat, Eater Houston has compiled a running list of restaurants open in Houston after the hurricane. City of Bellaire has compiled a list of open restaurants in Bellaire on their Instagram.
