Baby or Egg?

Many whispers hushed around the school as students longed for the iconic egg project. Some people are irritated, such as senior Kai Livingstone, who said, “The kids with eggs are so annoying since they just make it their whole personality.” Others say he's just jealous that he won’t have the unique opportunity to raise an egg.
Teenagers often embed themselves in a world of homework, extracurriculars, and friends; consumed in a stressful environment, high schoolers tend to forget the vitality of their parents and their never-ending support. Planned with great precision, the famous egg project serves as a reminder to students about their parents and how crucial they are.
Amid this busy homecoming week for Houston Christian students, the focus shifted for those in Ms. “PMac” Pam McClendon’s psychology class when they were tasked to take care of an egg. To simulate what it would be like to have an actual child, students draw faces and give names to their own respective eggs. The project lasts a little over 4-5 days and included taking care of it over the weekend.
When the project was assigned, students were given the choice to name their child, choose anyone they want to be their spouse (Megan Fox being an extremely popular choice), draw a face on their baby, take it with them everywhere they go, and, most importantly, not crack the egg in the small protective case. The task to bring the egg wherever you go proved to be the most difficult, but the most fun. The egg-child bond knew no limits, as some experienced the life of football players while others had a great time listening to the after-school rehearsals for theater.
Ms. PMac considers this project a success. Students rediscovered and appreciated the impact and necessity of their parents through their experience with the egg. Junior Marlee Wilder shares, “This project helped me to understand parents better,” adding that “their motives come from a place of love and care.”
Beyond just the project and the grade that comes with it, students grew and developed a deeper respect for their parents. The project created epiphanies for the student, as it showcased their parents’ time, dedication, and sacrifices that were all made through unconditional love. Regardless of your opinion of this peculiar assignment, this iconic project will forever implant a memory in these students’ hearts, reminding them of their parents’ love.
