Cinderella Through Every Art

Every department at HSPVA has performances and chances to shine, but there are only a couple of times throughout the year where all of the departments come together to perform something spectacular. Every year at HSPVA the school puts on an All School Musical. This means that every department is able to participate. Whether you're in creative writing or in instrumental music, you can have the chance to participate and make art as a whole.
This year, HSPVA is putting on Rodger’s and Hammerstein's Cinderella. Auditions took place near the end of the 24-25 school year. There are many things that go into the process of making a musical, and all of these things are done by the students. The making of props, costumes, sets, lighting, sound, tracking sheets, and more are all made by students to help bring this musical to life.
As a freshman, I was not able to audition for the musical, but I am still able to participate in it. At HSPVA there is a job called shadowing. Freshmans can audition to shadow multiple positions to still be able to take part in the musical. These shadow positions include stage management, hair makeup/costumes, props, lighting, sound, publicity, and more. This helps freshmen gain a new experience, and it helps them learn more about the tech portion of theatre.
Being in the all school comes with a lot of dedication, hard work, patience, and a free schedule. Students are there every school day and on Saturdays. The students play a crucial part in the making of the musical, but it could not happen without the directors and the support of the school. Director Rozanne Curtis, choreographer Courtney D. Jones, vocal director Marcus J. Jauregui, band director Ogechi Ukazu, and band assistant Stephanie Blue have all not only helped bring this musical to life, but helped guide these students to greatness.
The all schools are not only great for the experience, but they are also great for opportunities. Many students have gotten scholarships for colleges, and have been nominated for award shows, including the Tommy Tune Awards. It is also a great way to meet new students, collaborate with others, and to step out of your comfort zone.
Overall, the All School Musical is an incredible way for students to connect and make something magical. You are welcome to come see the musical from October 10-19th, and I know you will have a magical night.
