Crime Stoppers of Houston's 26th Annual Crime Stoppers Gala
Crime Stoppers of Houston will host its 26th Annual Crime Stoppers Gala on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018 at 6 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Hotel Downtown. Chaired by Brigitte and Bashar Kalai and Sippi and Ajay Khurana, the event will celebrate strides made in the past year, and offer an opportunity for the community, supporters and friends with an interest in public safety to give back to areas of crime prevention, proactive school safety programming through the Safe School Institute and victim services.
The evening will begin with a cocktail reception and an opportunity for guests to view and bid on silent auction packages. Mistress of ceremonies KPRC 2 News Anchor Dominique Sachse will kick off the evening’s program at 7 p.m., followed by dinner and highlights of the evening including keynote speaker Joanna Coles and recognition of The Honorable Joanne King Herring.
As the first chief content officer of Hearst Magazines, Joanna Coles guides the editorial and brand development for one of the world’s largest media companies – comprised of 300 magazines globally. Coles is also an author, television co-creator, and executive producer – her current projects span from a scripted TV series based on her life as an editor, The Bold Type on ABC’s Freeform network, to a new book titled Love Rules on relationships in the digital age. She will take the stage to shine a light on the wildly evolving digital and social times we are living in – a time where media content is shaping a generation of minds and where social media is driving how we think, feel and interact.
This year’s honoree, Joanne King Herring, is being recognized as one of the most vital forces for humanitarian causes decades over. From influencing policy to finding solutions on deeply complex national or international affairs, Mrs. Herring has done it all. With a connection to Crime Stoppers of Houston dating back to its inception in 1980, Mrs. Herring’s involvement has grown into personally working with the team to see an end to all types of criminal activity with a special emphasis on eradicating human trafficking.
Proceeds from the annual gala and auction will benefit Crime Stoppers of Houston’s mission to solve and prevent serious crime. The nonprofit’s crime prevention programs continue to serve the local Houston area and will soon be expanding to empower, educate and engage adults and youth from across the State of Texas.
