CYCLE Bicycle Ball
At CYCLE’s 13th annual gala, Bicycle Ball, guests will enjoy an evening filled with baseball, books, and bikes to support children’s literacy. On Saturday, Oct. 13 at the Hyatt Regency, there will be plenty of cocktails, delicious cuisine and televisions playing the first game of the American Champions League Series. With high hopes that the Houston Astros will continue their reign, guests are encouraged to wear “baseball chic” or black tie attire. Keeping the evening lively, there will be a DJ, dancing and the chance to participate in live and silent auctions featuring sports memorabilia from everyone’s favorite teams and players.
With only 37 percent of HISD third-graders achieving Texas reading standards (in 2013), this event is an integral path to success for Houston students and works to empower them to reach their full potential in school and life. The funds raised will help provide students with new bicycles as a reward for achieving better academic performance in the classroom. This is a critical part of their mission to possibly end the poverty cycle as children who reach fourth grade without being able to read proficiently are more likely to drop out of high school, reducing their earning potential and chances for success.
