Day of Unity Texas 2019
High school students from around Houston are teaming up to host Unity Day, which aims to address political polarization and civic engagement. Led by the High School Democrats of Texas, High School Republicans of Texas, and Junior Statement of America, the event brings high school students together to hear notable speakers and to participate in interactive sessions and discussions across party lines.
Last year's event brought over 200 students from Houston and featured speakers including Senator Ted Crus, Mayor Sylvester Turner, Representative Joaquin Castro and entrepreneur Raffi Grinberg. This year's event includes speakers such as Council Members Jack Christie and Jerry Davis along with discussion sessions on topics such as "Virtues of Moderation," "How to be Civil in an Uncivilized World" and "Modernization of Polarization."
