Energy Corridor of Houston Orchestra's Spring Concert
The Energy Corridor of Houston Orchestra (ECHO) will present their final concert of the 9th Season in the beautiful auditorium of Strake Jesuit High School on Thurs., May 18, 7:30 p.m. The theme of the spring concert is a celebration of music education and includes a performance of Academic Festival Overture, Op. 80 by Johannes Brahms in addition to solo performances by winners of the Young Artist Concerto Competition held in February. Also on the program will be Tchaikovsky’s inspiring Slavic March and Franz Schubert’s iconic Symphony No. 8 known as the Unfinished Symphony, which will be performed in side-by-side with members of the Strake Jesuit and St. Agnes High School Orchestras.
This year’s Young Artist Concerto Competition produced two winners. Brigham Smith, a pianist who is a junior at Westside High School, will play the first movement of the Piano Concerto No. 1 by Franz Liszt on the first half of the program. After intermission, Hope Hoang, a junior at Memorial High School, will perform a harp arrangement of the first movement of George Frideric Handel’s Concerto in B-Flat.
