Fall Gardening Classes: Growing the Food of Hospitality at Hope Farms
Throughout history, feast days – when we welcome family, friends, and strangers to our table, have been aligned with the harvests. We will explore how the Indigenous People of North America and new arrivals from Europe each brought their own food traditions to that long ago fall harvest feast, and understand how that early intermingling of food-ways formed the bedrock for how we eat now. In the garden, we will discover the food of hospitality as reflected in the diverse cultures that make up Houston today. We will harvest, taste and plant a new garden of carrots and other goodies. (Children 7-12 may attend alone; parents are encouraged to accompany their 5 & 6 year old children.)
