Families with Pride

The Second Annual Families With Pride even

The Second Annual Families With Pride event, a free celebration of family and togetherness, takes place on Saturday, June 24, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at Levy Park.

District C Council Member Abbie Kamin, the Houston LGBT Chamber, and Levy Park are thrilled to announce the return of CM Kamin’s Second Annual Families With Pride event, a free celebration of family and togetherness on Saturday, June 24, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at Levy Park.

The family-friendly celebration will feature fun and interactive educational activities including the Colors of Pride Ribbon Wall where kids can write notes of what pride means to them, Houston Public Library’s big games and activities, Pride Storytime, hands-on art projects, and face painting. Residents are also encouraged to dress up their fur babies for Houston’s Second Annual Proud Puppy Parade that will take place at 9 a.m. at the Levy Park Dog Park.

Two new additions this year: The Nature Conservancy will be on-hand to host “Grow your Pride,” an educational activity for kids to learn about sustainability while planting their own flowers to take home, as well as historical materials on display from University of Houston’s Special Collections – LGBTQ+ History Research Collection.

Guests can also enjoy Levy Park’s free amenities such as the Art and Game Cart, Ping Pong tables, Reading Room, Splash Pad, and Putting Green. Park concessions and food trucks will be on site.

The celebration includes community partner support and resources for families from Legacy Community Health, Houston Public Libraries, Houston LGBTQ+ Political Caucus, The Montrose Center and the Houston Health Department, who will be on site with opportunities for vaccinations and more. Houston’s own DJ Johnny J will be entertaining the crowd, and the Orange Show with Chalk Stang Art Car will be returning with a new and exciting interactive mosaic art project.
