On September 15, 1810, Father Miguel Hidalgo climbed atop a church and encouraged people to fight for Mexico’s independence. This “cry” for liberty marks the anniversary of Mexico’s “Grito de Dolores” and it’s celebrated with music, fireworks, and parades. But Fiestas Patrias isn't only celebrated by Mexico, other countries which celebrate Fiestas Patrias are Chile, Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Guatemala. Join us for with interactive activities and an unforgettable dance performance! Celebrate at the Museum with music, art, dance and more!

Mariachi Band

Feel the strings and trumpets throughout our halls with walking performances of traditional Mexican Mariachi music by this talented group.

Relive history as you witness el "grito", or cry, for Mexican independence by Father Juan Hidalgo. *Followed by a short Mariachi Monarco performance

Mola Art

The Mola or Molas is a hand-made textile that forms part of the traditional women's clothing of the indigenous Guna people from Panamá and Colombia, South America. Take part in this festive and crafty tribute to Mola textile art!
