Go Bananas! at Houston Botanic Garden

Celebrate the amazing aspects of the banana at Houston Botanic Garden's day-long festival honoring the world's most popular tropical fruit! The festival will take place on June 4, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., featuring events that the whole family can enjoy, including crafts, tastings, and informational presentations.

Family-friendly Activities:

Banana Tastings
10 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 12 p.m.
Go beyond the usual grocery store offerings and try five different banana varieties.

Farmer’s Market with The Informal Grub
10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Kid’s Zone
10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Edible art making with Sarah Gish, paper mache art workshop and face painting with Young Audiences of Houston, and physical comedy and joke workshop with Brave Little Company.

Banana Leaf Print Zentangle
10:30 a.m.
The Zentangle method is an easy-to-learn and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. Local artist Tonya Zitman will guide participants through the creation of banana-themed zentangle prints in this highly creative class.

World of Bananas Presentation
3 p.m.
Mercer Botanic Gardens horticulturists Elise Rodriguez and Jevon Richeson will dive into the world of bananas to discuss the good, the bad, and the yellow. They will explore the complex history and complicated relationship humans with bananas, as well as detrimental diseases that the unique plant – the world’s largest herb, not a tree – faces. They will also examine the environmental impacts of agricultural production and what we can do to alleviate those impacts.
