Grandparent’s Day with UnitedHealthcare & Sesame Workshop
In celebration of National Grandparents Day, UnitedHealthcare and Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization behind Sesame Street®, are teaming up on September 11, 2021, to honor grandparents. The Growing Every Day, Every Way celebration will provide families and grandparents with resources that offer fun, easy ways grandparents can connect with grandchildren both virtually and in-person to help them build social and emotional skills.
Local community organizations will be in attendance providing wellness and social services information, including free COVID-19 vaccinations. UnitedHealthcare representatives will also be available to answer questions about health benefits.
Grandparents often play a major role in children’s growth and development. According to the 2019 U.S. Census American Community Survey, there are more than 70 million grandparents in the United States, including 2.4 million "grandparent caregivers" with primary responsibility for grandchildren under 18. Grandparent caregivers are often longer-term primary caregivers, with 15 percent responsible for their grandkids for more than five years. Additionally, more than 7 million grandparents are living with a grandchild under the age of 18.
Attendees will have access to Sesame Workshop’s Growing Every Day, Every Way bilingual program materials, including the new "Grandparents Are Grand!" guidebook.
COVID-19 safety measures will be enforced, including masking, social distancing, and hand sanitation stations.
