Houston Botanic Garden & The Feel Good Group: 'Nurtured by Nature'

Nurtured by Nature

In celebration of Mental Health Month – and in partnership with The Feel Good Group – the Houston Botanic Garden presents “Nurtured by Nature: Wellness Flourishes Outdoors” on Saturday, May 21, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Garden’s first health and wellness festival will be a day full of discovery, celebration, and growth, focused on learning about and taking part in good practices in the key areas of healthy eating, personal fitness, and mental health.

In the morning, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in healthy activities, including:

•    Sound bathing with Gongsia Sacred Sound Sessions – 9 a.m. & 10 a.m.
•    Soul Tribes Yoga + Meditation – 9 a.m. & 11 a.m.
•    Control Studios Pilates – 10-10:45 a.m.

Following a workout, participants can enjoy a refreshing juicing demonstration with Cranky Carrot Juice Co. at 11 a.m.

In the afternoon, attendees can stop by the Culinary Garden to discover the joy of gardening, celebrate the nutritious food a garden can produce, and prepare to set the perfect table to show off a bountiful harvest:

•    Home gardening demonstration with Heather Hedrick of Rooted Garden – 1-1:45 p.m.
•    Cooking demonstration with Casey Barbles, MS, of The Feel Good Group and The Informal Grub – 1:45-2:30 p.m.
•    Table setting demonstration with Kimberly Dorris of KD Weave – 2:30-3 p.m.

Kids can get Nurtured by Nature, as well. From 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Ivy Walls of Ivy Leaf Farms will lead hands-on gardening activities, for the young, and the young-at-heart.

The entire family will enjoy shopping in the pop-up market with great finds from local businesses from 12-5 p.m., and live music from Dem Roots Music -- a recent performer in the Garden’s just-concluded Sunday Concert Series -- from 3-5 p.m. For the adults, there will also be a happy hour from 3-5 p.m. to wrap up the day.

In addition, experts from the Center for Heath & Nature – a collaboration between Houston Methodist, Texan by Nature, and the Texas A&M Health Science Center – will also present a series of informative lectures throughout the day for those seeking to broaden their horizons concerning the benefits of time spent in nature on mental and physical well-being.
