Enjoy the Labor Day weekend with to the Lone Star Flight Museum. Whether you missed them or want one last chance to experience your favorite, join us for our most popular summer activities. All activities are FREE with paid admission.
Sat., Sept. 1:
9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Watch us fly! Our flying vintage collection will take to the skies every (weather permitting).
Visitors can access our ramp and watch planes taxi, take-off and soar! Meet the pilots and crew chiefs who maintain and fly our collection. Interested in taking a flight yourself? Rides can be purchased at lonestarflight.org/rides.
10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Meet the Mechanics: Ever want to know what it takes to keep a plane, more than 70 years, old airworthy? Learn the nuts and bolts of airplane maintenance from our mechanics and crew chiefs, watch live demonstrations, and try your hand at turning a screw (or two)!
10a.m. – 4 p.m. Pilot Experience: Explore the skies like a real pilot! Take the controls in our Aviation Learning Center. Plan your round-trip flight, “file” an FAA flight plan, and pre-flight a real Mooney M20 Ovation aircraft. Then settle into one of our flight simulators and hit the throttle. The sky’s the limit!
11a.m. Living History: Lt. Col. Don Houck (ret.), USAF, brings the legendary Lt. Col. James H. Doolittle to life with his personal presentation of the daring mission that was America’s first response to Pearl Harbor.
11 a.m. & 1 p.m. Hangar Talk: P-47 Stearman – With an armament consisting of eight .50-inch machine guns and the durability to absorb an incredible amount of battle damage, the P-47 was one of the most successful ground-attack aircraft of World War II. Get “behind the chains” and learn the exclusive aircraft history from the experts.
Sun., Sept. 2:
1 p.m. Curator’s Corner: Join museum curator Stewart Bailey for an in-depth look at the B-17s of Project Aphrodite.
12 p.m. – 3 p.m. Simulator Bay: Ever wanted to know what it takes to become a pilot? Take the controls in one of the museum’s Redbird Simulators and explore the skies like a real pilot! Pilots must be age 10+.
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 3
10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Douglas DC-3 Tours: Open for the first time to the public for tour, the LSFM DC-3 was part of the fleet that paved the way for the modern American air travel industry. The Museum’ s DC-3 was produced in 1940 and flew seven years for American Airlines. It was later bought by TransTexas Airways, the predecessor to Continental Airlines. When Gordon Bethune, founder of Continental Airlines, was inducted into the TAHF in 2004, Continental Airlines donated the aircraft to the Flight Museum. The aircraft is airworthy.
11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Av8r Experiments: Mathematician and scientist Daniel Bernoulli cracked the code on what makes flight possible in the 1700s when he observed that air moved like water. Conduct your own Bernoulli-inspired experiments using simple materials such as balloons, string and even a deck of cards to learn what makes aircraft lift off and stay aloft.
