Les Grandes Dames: A Centennial Celebration for Miller Outdoor Theatre
Miller Theatre Advisory Board will host Les Grandes Dames: A Centennial Celebration for Miller Outdoor Theatre on Thurs., Nov. 16, at River Oaks Country Club with special guest Rita Moreno, in celebration of Miller Outdoor Theatre’s Centennial Celebration and honoring outgoing Managing Director Cissy Segall Davis.
Chaired by June Deadrick, Robin & Danny Klaes and Christine & David Underwood, Jr. the gala event will honor Cissy Segall Davis and feature special guest, Rita Moreno. Rita Moreno is a true Hollywood and Broadway legend, having been honored and recognized for her acclaimed performances during her more than 80-year career. he has won all four of the most prestigious awards in show business: two Emmys, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony, making her one of only 18 to achieve EGOT status. Her countless credits span more than eight decades, beginning with her Broadway debut at age 13. Moreno has starred on Broadway and London's West End, appeared in more than 40 feature films, and countless television shows, and has performed in numerous regional theaters including her one woman show, Life Without Makeup at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre. Moreno has received the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush and the National Medal of Arts by President Barack Obama.
Moreno was recently cast in the Netflix film “Family Leave” starring opposite Jennifer Garner for release this coming Christmas 2023. She recently starred in several films including, “80 for Brady” with Sally Field, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin and NFL great Tom Brady, “Santa’s Bootcamp”, a holiday flick for Lifetime TV and hosted the “Beauty and the Beast” 30th Anniversary Special on ABC-TV. This past spring, she appeared as Vin Diesel’s grandmother in “Fast X” of the Fast and Furious franchise. She continues to tour the country appearing at speaking engagements and lectures.
Ernie Manouse, local broadcast legend, and avid supporter of the arts in Houston, will help Rita tell her story with his customary insight and charm. Their conversation will be the highlight of what is certain to be a delightful evening.
Funds raised from the gala will contribute to the current $12.5 capital campaign underway to provide renovations and improvements that will greet future Miller visitors providing the next generation of theatregoers with an incredible, more-modern, and state-of-the art theatre experience.
