México en el Corazón
Discovery Green hosts México en el Corazón on Friday, Sept. 13, 6:30-10 p.m. This free, family-friendly evening immerses event-goers into the artistic world of Mariachi music, ballet folklorico and other representations of Mexican heritage. Emceed by Univision 45 Anchor Marlene Guzman, this showcase of traditional Mexican culture features more than 50 performers in a tour presented by the North American Institute for Mexican Advancement (NAIMA) in collaboration with CONFEDEJAL and the government of Guadalajara.
The event opens with performances by students from the Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (Kinder HSPVA) and Houston-based Nueva Luna, a ballet folklorico troupe.
The Grove, the park’s on-site destination restaurant, will host happy hour before the event, from 4 to 7 p.m. Featured specials will include $6 classic and pomegranate margaritas, $8 pork belly nachos, $6 tuna tartare tacos and $5 chips and salsa.
Blankets, lawn chairs and picnics are welcome; food, beer and wine are also available for purchase on site from the Lake House Café. No glass containers or outside alcoholic beverages are allowed.
The event is free to attend, and presented with support from the City of Houston through the Houston Arts Alliance. VIP seating is available for Forever Green park members.
