Paint Away Hunger

Youth Changing the WorldVeda Chilakapati, a local fourth-grade student, is hosting Paint Away Hunger on April 11, 1-3 p.m. at the Houston Food Bank; she has been awarded a Sodexo Foundation Youth Grant through Youth Service America, which supports her in leading a community service project that addresses the issue of childhood hunger.

Global Youth Service Day, April 17-19, is the largest volunteering and service event in the world. Chilakapati has teamed up with Mad Potter and Empty Bowls to encourage youth service and raise awareness of childhood hunger. At the Paint Away Hunger event, children are invited to tour the HFB and paint a bowl for a minimum donation of $25 to the HFB. The bowls will be auctioned at the May Empty Bowls Auction event benefitting the HFB for a minimum of $25. At least $50 per bowl will be donated to the HFB which translates into 150 meals!

Chilakapati joins millions of other young people around the world as part of Global Youth Service Day, April 17 to 19, 2015. Now in its 27th year, Global Youth Service Day provides an opportunity for young people to find their voice, take action, and make a positive impact in their communities. As the largest service event in the world, Global Youth Service Day is celebrated in more than 135 countries and all 50 states.
