Russian Tea Party

Tea

Russian Cultural Center cordially invites you to traditional Russian tea party –“Chaepitie”.

Although tea cultivation originated in China, Russia is a country, like England, where tea-drinking is an essential part of family life and cultural tradition. Visiting friends are always invited in for “a cuppa” – a cup of tea.

The "cup of tea" is not just a tea but accompanied by lots of pastries and sweets.

Tea bags, popular throughout the world, are frowned upon. Russians still prefer tea prepared in the classic manner: brewed with lots of loose tea. Many families pride themselves of their collections of porcelain tea-pots and tea services of different sizes and decorations. Plain tea-pots, cups and saucers are used for everyday tea-drinking; more festive sets are used for more ceremonial occasions. The first sets of “Chaepitie” porcelain services were manufactured in Tsarist Russia in the 18th Century. Many styles are still in production today by the original manufacturers.

We will be offering an evening of “Chaepitie”, hot tea and pastries in Russian-style – provided by Kingdom Bakery and Buta Home Party.

Accompanying this festive celebration is an exhibition of beautiful Russian tea sets – by the famous Imperial porcelain factories, such as Lomonosov Porcelain Factory, Dulevo porcelain factory, and others.

Also on display will be Tula samovars, linen tablecloths, and much more.

All items will be available for sale.
