World AIDS Day Observance and Candlelight Vigil

Houston’s fight against HIV isn’t over—and this December, the city is coming together to make that clear. Legacy Community Health will host its annual World AIDS Day Observance at The DeLUXE Theater (3303 Lyons Avenue), in partnership with the Houston Health Department, Harris County Public Health, The T.R.U.T.H. Project, The Links, Incorporated – Missouri City Chapter, The Normal Anomaly Initiative, and Allies in Hope. This free event brings advocates, health leaders, and community members together to honor lives lost and renew the commitment to end the epidemic.

The event takes place on Monday, December 1, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM (doors open at 5:30 PM). Award-winning host Ernie Manouse will lead a powerful program featuring spoken word performances, a candlelight vigil, and remarks from Legacy Community Health CEO Robert Palussek, Houston Health Department Director Dr. Theresa Tran, and Houston Mayor Pro Tem Martha Castex-Tatum.

A dynamic panel discussion will follow, moderated by Richon Ohafia, MPH, and featuring:

  • Joelle Espeut, Program Director, The Normal Anomaly Initiative
  • Marlene McNeese, Deputy Assistant Director, Houston Health Department
  • Wanda Mott, MD, VP, Missouri City Chapter of The Links Incorporated; OB/GYN, Texas Children's Hospital
  • Ray Purser, VP of Government Relations and Public Affairs, Legacy Community Health

Guests can also access free HIV testing by AmistadesHTX by Legacy and enjoy light refreshments throughout the evening. This event is free and open to the public. To RSVP, visit legacycommunityhealth.org/worldaidsday.
