Writespace Valentine's Day Fundraiser
Writespace, Houston’s newest literary arts organization, will host “A Night of Love and Letters” on Valentine’s Day. Writespace has partnered with Whole Foods Market Houston and several of Houston’s craft breweries to host its first annual Valentine’s Day fundraiser. This event is presell only and seating is limited, so get tickets before they sell out. All proceeds from ticket sales will go to fund future Writespace workshops and scholarships.
This candlelight fundraiser features readings by established local romance authors Melissa Maygrove and Jessice Trapp. Melissa Maygrove was recently chosen one of Houston’s 100 Creatives for 2014. She is the author of Come Back, a western historical romance set in the 1850s. Jessica Trapp is the author of several fantastical romance novels including her most recent title Defiant. She has placed in a myriad of national fiction writing contests and won numerous awards, including the KISS from Romantic Times BookReview Magazine. Her writing has been described as “beautifully evocative” and having a “bold unabashed voice.”
The fundraiser also features wine, beer, and chocolates from local sponsors St. Arnold Brewing Co., Buffalo Bayou Brewing Co., and Karbach Brewing Co., as well as Whole Foods Houston, providing chocolate pairings. The event includes a loveletter writing tutorial with Writespace’s director Elizabeth WhiteOlsen. There is also an opportunity for attendees to participate in a loveletter writing contest. Those participating in the contest should bring a written loveletter to read aloud and the audience will select their favorite. The winner will receive a $100 gift certificate toward a Writespace workshop.
