Gardner Watson, a fifth grader at The Kinkaid School, was on the All-Stars team in the Post Oak Little League.
My favorite thing to do is to play baseball. I have been playing baseball for almost my whole life. This was my third year to play at Post Oak Little League. I have played two years in the Pee Wee division and one year in the Minors division.
Every year has been so much fun, especially this year because my team made it to the championship. I have met so many new friends and families from my teams and just around Post Oak. Everyone goes up there to cheer on friends and watch other games even when they’re not playing.
This was my second year to be picked for the All-Stars traveling team. It was really exciting because we made it all the way to state in Tyler. All my teammates were so nice and always cheering you up when you were down. We worked so hard and had practice almost every day for the past two months. We always wanted to go to practice. We got there early and we left late.
My coaches, Coach Eric Anderson, Coach Blake Benton and Coach Chris Spears, were so nice and hardworking. They always believed in us from the very beginning. They helped us learn so much about how to play better baseball and work together as a team. My teammates were all really good baseball players and never gave up even when we were down in a game.
My whole team gave up going to camp and on family vacations just so we could keep playing together this summer. This year, in the regular season, I played shortstop and pitcher, and on the All-Stars I played second base and pitched in a few games. I have learned as a fielder that it is always important to know where to go with the ball before every pitch.
I plan to play baseball all the way through Post Oak and in high school and my dream someday is to even play in the Major Leagues. I love Post Oak Little League and can’t wait for baseball season next year!
