Luke Onufer (pictured, in red), a kindergartener at Horn Academy, celebrated Grandparent’s Day with his grandparents, Lydia “Idgy” Alvarado, Helen Loe and Bob Onufer (pictured, from left). Lydia, one of the VIPS (volunteers in public schools), can be seen opening juice boxes and corralling kids 3-4 days a week as a lunch monitor. Bob and Helen visit the school as often as they can. Bob Onufer is a quadruple-bypass survivor and belongs to a volunteer organization called Mended Hearts, which offers hope to heart patients. While at Grandparent’s Day, he ran into a fellow Mended Hearts volunteer – they had no idea they both had grandchildren at Horn.
