The 20th annual AFA Summer Concert Series kicked off with Middle School Festival Day at Pershing Middle School. Notable performances included those by several school string orchestras conducted by Penny Meitz (St. John’s School) and Ana Payne (Beverly Hills Intermediate School), as well as chamber music under the direction of Rodolfo Morales (HSPVA). AFA offers year-round and summer programs for young musicians in Houston. Among those students performing were Hanna Chong-Ahmed, Lanier Middle School; Kalli Davidson, Lanier; Robin Newberry, Lanier; Elyssa Contreras, Pershing; Simone Lim, Pin Oak; Shivani Lotlikar, Pin Oak; Carissia Arrazolo, The Rice School; Madalyn Hernandez, The Rice School, and Heavyn Roberts, The Rice School.
