Punk’s Simple Southern Food
From the moment I walked into this casual Rice Village spot, I felt the Southern hospitality in full force. From the warm staff to the attentive service, I was made to feel right at home at Punk’s. Of course, I came for the crispy, buttermilk fried chicken. Punk’s offers two choices – a half bird/five pieces or a whole bird/10 pieces. Both choices are served with horseradish mash potatoes, brown gravy, buttermilk biscuit with honey butter, dill pickle and peppery Punk’s sauce. Whole birds are carved up precisely on-site, and then brined in herbs and spices, soaked in buttermilk and coated twice in breading before they are deep fried. The result is a moist, tender and flavorful fried chicken, with just a hint of spice from the perfectly crunchy crust, served with tasty sides, including a dill pickle and sweet biscuits. The portions are generous, so come with a big appetite. Punk’s is a family-friendly restaurant with an abundance of seating, including outdoors on the welcoming wrap-around porch.
