Mommy Moments: Go Texan Day
Go Texan Day is a proud day for Houstonians. It’s the day that kicks off rodeo season.
The concept of Go Texan Day was first discussed in 1938 by the General Manager of the Houston Chamber of Commerce. However, it was not until the 1950s that it was put into practice all over our city. In 1954, Archer Romero chaired the first Go Texan Committee to encourage what would later become a Houston tradition during the rodeo.
If you grew up in Houston, most likely you remember wearing western clothes to school on Go Texan Day. The school I attended when I was young required a uniform, so I remember happily wearing jeans and boots to school on Go Texan Day.
It was fun to see my twins, Cash and Lila, participate in Go Texan Day in a rodeo parade at their school. What did your kids do to celebrate our western heritage?
