Bruce and Jessica Coane passed through the Istanbul airport just two days before the bombing tragedy occurred there. During their visit in Vienna, Bruce heard Othmar Karas, a Viennese member of the European Parliament, talk about Brexit at a law conference he attended before the vote was given. They rented a car in Zagreb, Croatia, and after visiting Hungary, drove to the Ukraine, where Jessica’s relatives from Kiev picked them up after they walked across the border, since they were not allowed to drive in. Jessica had been there 10 years before and saw differences during socialism and the rebuilding from it. They arrived back on the 4th of July.
