A determined gymnast
Sophia Neylon (pictured) is a member of the Houston Gymnastics Academy competitive optionals team. She recently completed Level 7 state and regional competitions. Sophia has had a passion for gymnastics since she was 6 years old and joined the team when she was 8. Sophia’s year-round, 20-hours-a-week practice paid off at state and regionals this year, where she became the balance beam and uneven-bars champion. Sophia had the opportunity to attend the U.S. Gymnastics Olympic Trials in San Jose in July, and excitedly cheered on the U.S. gymnastics team in the Olympics on television.
