Hailey Caress, a junior at The Emery/Weiner School is passionate about baking.
Out of the 300 students in The Emery/Weiner upper school, there are many students who are so talented at a certain craft; it is almost hard to believe that they are only in high school. Although the number of students in the upper school is very small in comparison to the number of students at the bigger high schools in the Houston area, most of the Emery students have a hobby that makes them unique. Hailey Caress’ hobby is baking.
From cupcakes to cookies to cakes; Hailey, a junior, has turned her hobby into a small business. She started baking at a young age with her grandmother and her mother, and ever since then, she has always loved it.
“When I was little, I grew up around my grandma baking a lot and wanting me to help her, so I have been baking since I was able to walk.” As for now, she only bakes for family and friends, but upon request, she will bake for anybody who direct messages her on her instagram: @haileys_cakes.
Hailey also told me that she uses baking as a way to destress. Last year, my birthday was during finals and I asked Hailey if she could possibly make a cake for me, and she was more than happy to, because that is what she would do for a study break.
“My favorite cake that I have ever done was the one I made for Jenna for her 16th birthday.” That is also one of the best cakes I have ever seen or eaten.
If you are interested in purchasing a cake for any occasion, I would recommend talking to Hailey. Her love for baking is remarkable, and if one were to look at her baked goods, they would not believe that it is the work of a high school student. Not only do all of her baked goods look amazing, but they all taste incredible. Hailey is just one of the many talented students from Emery who is passionate about something.
