One thing that makes Emery so unique is our extremely talented student body. Ely German, a junior, makes and sells her own artwork. Ely says that she has always had a passion for art from the first time she grabbed a pencil.
She has done drawings, oil paintings, prints, murals and more. She has made and sold custom pieces to multiple people including Emery students. She runs an account to showcase her artwork on Instagram, @elygerman, where she has 2000+ followers. Ely has been featured in the J Teen Art Scene at the JCC, where she won an award for best technique in show. Now, she is a member of the J Teen Art Scene board, which helps to organize the event.
Currently, she is working with artist, Weihong, by volunteering at her art installations and has a part-time internship at Gray Contemporary Gallery. Also, this year she was accepted to be published in the Celebrating Art book sponsored by Blick Art Supplies.
At Emery, Ely is currently painting a mural on the back of one of our stairways. The stairway leads up to the music rooms, which heavily inspired Ely’s design.
“I want to inspire kids each time they head to music class, so I decided to paint a girl playing the trumpet with birds flying around her,” she said.
Everyone at Emery is excited to see the mural finished and have it inspire us every day.
