The Green Wave

Freshmen “fish” Serena Mammen and Max Weber met at Tulane University eight years ago. Last summer in Galveston, Max went fishing and cast a proposal to Serena. After the couple married recently, at the First Presbyterian Church of New Orleans, they joined a six-block second line parade led by the Kinfolk Brass Band down Canal Street and into the ballroom at the historic Roosevelt Hotel. The couple incorporated a Christian wedding custom from Kerala, the southern Indian state, known as minnukettu into their ceremony. The minnu is a small leaf-shaped pendant with a cross that the groom secures around the bride’s neck, literally “tying the knot,” for a lifelong commitment of marriage. Parents Dr. George and Geetha Mammen and Theodore and Lisa Weber waved them off to their honeymoon in Thailand.
