Event Roundup: What to Look Forward to This Weekend
Now that fall temperatures are here, a festive spirit is in the air, and the city is brimming with exciting, fall-themed events. Here’s our weekend picks:
Go 'Stros! Root for the Astros as they continue to play the New York Yankees. This weekend, the schedule is: Friday, 7 p.m. and Saturday, 7 p.m. at Minute Maid Park.
The West University Place Parks and Recreation Department is bringing a country harvest celebration to town with its annual Full Moon Fest. The event, which will be going on throughout the day Saturday, includes pumpkin decorating, costume contests and face painting.
2017 Fire Truck Pull & Car Show
Saturday morning, it’s all about horsepower. There will be a competitive rush of charitable games, such as a “Tug of War” game with a fire truck and the revving of engines from an gathering of vintage, custom and souped-up rides. The 2017 Fire Truck Pull & Car Show, hosted by the Bellaire Fire Department and Bellaire Police Department, will take place in front of Bellaire City Hall. The event benefits Special Olympics.
The Houston food community has rallied in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, providing food and relief for first responders and flood victims. This Saturday Levy Park Conservancy will be teaming up with James Beard award-winning chef Rocco DiSpirito to present Healthy Bites to Save Lives, a festival featuring healthy food and beverages, to raise funds for Texas students who have been impacted by Harvey.
Guests at the annual ArBOOretum can listen to the lore of the spooky holiday without getting a fright. This family-friendly event will include a Trick-or-Treat Trail where kids learn about different creatures and collect candy along the way. There will also be train rides, a petting zoo, pony rides, pumpkin decorating, face painting and food trucks.
Memorial Villages Fall Festival and Oktoberfest
Get into the fall spirit at the Memorial Villages’ Fall Festival, which is sure to be a bundle of fun with a pumpkin patch in the morning and a beer garden and live band in the afternoon/evening. Some of the exciting activities for kids include a petting zoo and crafts. All the proceeds for this event support four charities that benefit the Memorial area.
Trick-or-Treaters aren't the only ones who get dressed up for Halloween. At Carter's Pet Depot's Barktoberfest, guests are encouraged to bring their furry friends in costume. Live music, cold brews, giveaways, a cornhole and free photos printed immediately will all be part of the event helping raise pet rescue/adoption awareness.
Nature Discovery Center's Pumpkin Patch Fall Festival
Heaps of pumpkins have been rolled in to Bellaire for Nature Discovery Center’s 24th Annual Pumpkin Patch. This fall festival features Halloween themed games, wagon rides, a moon bounce and a pumpkin patch.
