A stand-up guy
The Broach Foundation for Brain Cancer Research is hosting its seventh annual Stand-Up for Brain Cancer Gala on April 19 at River Oaks Country Club. On August 2011, James Broach was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer, a grade IV astrocytoma, also known as a glioblastoma. This came 10 months after his previous diagnosis of a grade II astrocytoma during a surgery. He endured surgeries, radiation, chemo treatments and experimental trials. Along with his wife, Jamie, he decided to join the effort of pursuing a cure for the disease. The Broaches, along with the executive board, established The Broach Foundation for Brain Cancer Research to raise funds and awareness for adult brain cancer research. To date, the foundation has raised over $4 million. Pictured (from left) are Jeff Byrd, Jamie Broach Byrd and Parker Broach. Stand-up comedian Nate Bargatze will perform at the fundraising gala.
