Myles Burns, a 6’5” guard/forward at Lamar, just completed his high school career and will play Division I basketball next year for Loyola University New Orleans. During his four years at Lamar, he made his presence on the basketball court known and received statewide attention for his play, which resulted in national scouting interest and scholarship offers. He averaged 18 points and 12 rebounds his senior year and helped guide the Texans to the #23 ranking in the state. I recently got the chance to interview Myles about his experiences at Lamar and what to expect from him in the future.
What was your best play in a Texans uniform?
Myles: It was in the Aldine ISD Invitational Tournament this year. I grabbed the rebound, pushed the ball down the court by splitting two defenders, then I threw it off the backboard to myself and dunked it. I remember I even got a little Twitter famous from the play.
What was your favorite experience during your time at Lamar?
Myles: I really enjoyed bonding with my freshmen team. We won a lot of games while having fun with each other at the same time. It was probably my favorite basketball team that I’ve ever been on.
What do you consider your best attribute as a basketball player?
Myles: I feel like I’m very well-rounded and can do a lot of things at a high level on the basketball court, but I feel like my willpower is my best attribute. I could be completely gassed, but I’d still run for that one loose because that’s what it takes to win.
What AAU basketball team did you play for?
Myles: I played for Mo Taylor Elite, which was coached by 10-year NBA veteran Mo Taylor. My favorite Lamar teammate Kobe Flowers was also on the team with me.
What made you choose to commit to Loyola?
Myles: I chose Loyola because it has good academics, it’s close to home, and I also have lots of family in Louisiana that can come watch me play.
What kind of performances can we expect from you at Loyola?
Myles: Very good ones and I know the kind of hard work it’s going to take to makes them happen.
