Buzz-Area Seniors Celebrate College Commitments
With college applications, extracurricular activities and high school coursework, the first semester of senior year is often chaotic. Second semester starts to slow down as seniors hear back from colleges and enjoy many “lasts” for organizations, clubs and family gatherings while at home. Many students have expressed joy and celebrated with their friends as they committed to college.
St. John’s School senior Ellie Gershenwald is headed to New York University to study Media, Culture and Communication. Gershenwald went to dessert with her friends to celebrate and planned her trip to New York for winter break. She said, “I applied Early Decision so I was extremely excited because it was my first choice. When I saw my acceptance, I called my sister right away because she will be a senior there next year so we will have one year together.”
St. John’s senior Trip George will be studying theatre at University of Southern California School of Dramatic Arts. When he found out, he was super shocked and excited. Then he went to dinner with his family to celebrate. Trip said, "I'm excited to go to USC because it offers so many opportunities to pursue what I love to do. I can't wait to explore and expand new and current interests!"
Emery/Weiner senior Jenna Blumrosen will be in the Moody College of Communication at The University of Texas at Austin. Blumrosen’s kind friends decorated her bedroom with UT apparel, accessories and balloons. She said, “I am most excited about living in Austin. It is such a neat city unlike any place I’ve ever been, and I’m so excited to be a part of it next year!”
Emery/Weiner senior Ben Blachman will be continuing his academic career at Tulane University in New Orleans. Blachman said, “Committing to college is awesome, it’s a once in a lifetime experience, and having my friends there to celebrate with me made it even better.”
Emery/Weiner senior Elise Shoss is heading east to Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Similar to Blumrosen, Shoss’s friends decorated her bedroom in support of her bright future.
As seniors continue to commit to colleges across the world, high school graduation will be over in the blink of an eye.
