There are some new Eagle Scouts in town, including Thomas Garrison, Woodley Burrow, Colin Monteith, Antonio Salman and Jamie Moseley (pictured, from left). They were celebrated at their Eagle Court of Honor at Bagby Parish Hall at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church. The boys are seniors at The Kinkaid School and members of the Rattlesnake Patrol of Troop 354. Jamie Moseley’s Eagle project involved him partnering with Com-U-Dopt, a local non-profit that refurbishes computers and then provides them to underserved children. Jamie organized a collection drive to gather computers and parts. He then refurbished a computer, donated it and instructed the student, along with the student’s teacher, on how to use the computer for school. Woodley Burrow’s Eagle project involved designing and constructing cornhole game boards for DePelchin Children’s Center, a non-profit organization that provides foster-care services to children in need. He also built 10 bookshelves for DePelchin. Thomas Garrison’s Eagle project involved building six benches for the Cristo Rey Jesuit School. Cristo Rey Jesuit serves low-income high school students by supplementing four days of classes per week with a fifth-day work program, to help cover tuition. Antonio Salman’s project supported the Gulf Coastal Plain biome at the Houston Arboretum. Thomas cleared land and removed invasive species of trees and plants that grew uncontrollably following Hurricane Ike and the drought of 2011. Colin Monteith’s project supported the San Francisco Nativity Academy, a newly formed Catholic school that serves low-income families. Colin organized a team to build plant beds.
