Heavy lifting
Morgan “Morgs” Tannery (pictured), 10, is a Houston weightlifting champion. The Fay School rising fifth grader won the 31-kilogram and 38-kilogram weight class, overall, at the USA Weightlifting Houston City Championship for youth under 13. Olympic weightlifting consists of two barbell lifts, known as the Snatch and the Clean-and-Jerk. Morgs set personal records for both types of lift, and qualified for nationals with the second highest total in the country. Coach Jordan Weichers is preparing him to compete at both state and nationals in the coming year. When Morgs is not training, he enjoys football, wrestling, track, lacrosse and video games.
