Just Beet It: St. Thomas vs. Strake Rivalry Game
High school football in Texas is in effect. It’s time for the Strake Jesuit Crusaders versus the St. Thomas Eagles annual rivalry game.
Strake Jesuit College counselor, Jeff Fuller, was surprised to receive a gift bag from local cookie delivery company, Tiff’s Treats. He excitedly opened the first of two boxes to find a dozen delicious chocolate chip cookies. However, when he opened the second box, instead of discovering delicious treats, he found a can of sliced beets, a fresh beet and a sign that read:
BEET STRAKE! From your friend, Tom Eagle.
Jeff has a sneaky suspicion that the real “gift” sender may have actually been some of his family members who are part of the St. Thomas community and know that Uncle Jeff has always hated beets...especially after the “shall not be repeated” childhood dinner table incident.
So whether you wear STH red (like Jeff’s “favorite” vegetable) or Strake green (like Jeff’s face when he thinks about beets), even on Game Day, both Eagles and Crusaders fans can agree on at least this...when it comes to school rivalry or family antics, there’s never a dull moment! Go Team!
