Event Roundup: What to Look Forward to This Weekend

Happy Friday! There are tons of fun fall festivals and events going on around town this weekend, so we’re including more than usual in today’s roundup:
40th Annual Houston Italian Festival
Celebrate Italy's rich culture and traditions at the Houston Italian Festival, which takes place through Sunday on the grounds of the University of St. Thomas. Look forward to live music and performances, wine and beer tastings, film screenings, cooking classes for kids, Italian language classes, puppet shows, interactive sidewalk art, pasta eating contests, grape stomps, a bocce ball tournament, a classic car show and more. Proceeds benefit local nonprofits.
The annual Zoo Boo festivities kick off Fri., Oct. 12 and take place every weekend through the end of the month. Kids are encouraged to dress in costumes and bring their trick-or-treat bags to the Houston Zoo. Families will enjoy a pumpkin patch, candy corner stations, monster mural, a maze, games and more.
The Garden Club of Houston's Annual Bulb & Plant Mart
The annual Bulb & Plant Mart, which takes place at The Church of St. John The Divine on Friday-Saturday, offers top-quality bulbs and plants and information about gardening from a variety of experts.
Bayou City Art Festival Downtown
Browse art from more than 300 artists at Bayou City Art Festival Downtown this Saturday-Sunday. The festival will benefit local nonprofits and include live music throughout the festival along with entertainment, beverage stations, food trucks, a Children’s Creative Zone and more.
KBR Kids Day, one of Buffalo Bayou Partnership’s signature events, includes numerous hands-on activities, local entertainment and performers, balloon artists, a rock climbing wall, a birds of prey show, a Halloween costume parade and more. The festival takes place at Guadalupe Plaza Park on Saturday starting at 11 a.m.
Local Music Festival in the Park
Evelyn’s Park is hosting Local Music Fest, an all-day music festival on Saturday. Enjoy live concert performances from local musicians in the park.
The 10th annual Korean Festival takes place on Saturday at Discovery Green, with lots of food, interactive games and special guest performances.
The eighth annual Tweens Read Book Festival takes place on Saturday at South Houston High School, in conjunction with Blue Willow Bookshop. Aimed at children in grades five through eight, Tweens Read is a free festival that offers young readers a chance to discover new books and connect with established authors and illustrators. Author Varian Johnson (The Parker Inheritance) headlines the festival with a morning keynote address.
West University Elementary's Boo Bash
The community is invited to enjoy West University Elementary School's 93nd annual Fall Carnival and Bazaar (Boo Bash) on Saturday. Kids will enjoy playing games and gathering up treats at the sweet shop, and adults can browse the shopping bazaar.
Local artisans will be showcasing and selling unique items including paintings, jewelry and crafts on Saturday at the Community Building.
Market Square Park hosts “A Night at Market Square” on Saturday beginning at 6 p.m. Cirque Mythos, a Vaudeville-style circus entertainment troupe, headlines an evening of live performances, followed by live music from Austin-based steampunk gypsy band That Damned Band. There will also be lawn games, giveaways and a night market.
ALCS Game 1: Astros vs. Red Sox
The Houston Astros take on the Boston Red Sox in Game 1 of the ALCS in Boston. Root for the ‘Stros starting at 7:09 p.m.
