Tennis Season at STE

Tennis season at St. Thomas’ Episcopal is about to be in full swing with a team of about 35 players, bigger than ever before. The first district tennis match will be held Feb. 26 at Woodlands Christian against several other private schools in the Houston area. The team will be practicing persistently to prepare for the tournament with practices every Tuesday and Thursday at Le LeClear Tennis Center.

Tennis (and Head Soccer) Coach Chris White said, “I look forward to seeing all the new and old familiar faces that are interested in trying tennis. Being at a small private school, you have a unique opportunity to play many sports.” Coach White had a similar experience in his introduction to tennis, playing all four years at the private high school he attended.

For Coach White, the most challenging aspect of coaching tennis is finding available courts when St. Thomas’ needs them. He’s looking forward to the upcoming season and many tournament wins. His personal goal is to beat his father at the game.

Lily Huston, freshman at St. Thomas’, has been playing on the tennis team since middle school and is looking forward to playing again this year. Lily commented, “I’m looking forward to leaving school early for tournaments, riding on the bus together and just getting to play and watch each other play.” Lily plans to play tennis the rest of her high school years.
