Golden gala
More than 600 guests gathered at The Royal Sonesta decked in Mardi Gras attire for Turn it Gold’s inaugural gala to raise funds for childhood-cancer research. Alex Bregman, third baseman for the Houston Astros, made a guest appearance to present a Brave Life Honor Award to a family whose Astros-loving child was lost to cancer. The evening included a live auction, with participation from Bregman, and raised, overall, more than $500,000 to support the Turn it Gold Foundation. Gala co-chairs were Joslyn and David Paris, Jeannette and Brian Muecke, Lajeana and Chris Hardig, and Katherine and Clayton Gring. Turn it Gold was established in 2013 by Mike and Angela Dina in response to their son’s diagnosis with stage IV neuroblastoma.
